Place of Production: Japan
Selling points:
- Hybrid product that contains active ingredients such as functional powders (lightweight; gives high level of hold), seasalt spray (allows easy application, creative control) and clay (gives texture and body)
- Retains the movement and manageability of hair yet enhances its fresh texture, soft nuance and airy volume
- Contains a humidity-control ingredient that helps hold the hairstyle in place longer, even in highly humid Asian climates
- Humid environment: Prevents the hair from absorbing excess moisture in the air by regulating the amount of moisture inside the hair. This allows the hairstyle to be maintained, even in heat and humidity
- Dry environment: Locks in the hair’s moisture to prevent evaporation. Even under dry conditions, the hair’s moisture level does not change and the hair does not become dry
- Shiseido Powder Shake can be used on damp/dry hair. For best results, use it on dry hair
- Suitable for people with short to medium-long hair length; Also suitable for females with straight or permed hair
Something you should also know:
- With created hair volume, it not only allows for easier styling of hair but also creating a better and natural look.
- Spray the mist on dry hair by using an approximate amount (i.e. 4-6 times for short to medium length for males). Blowdry thoroughly and style as desired
- Shake well before use such that it makes a “click-clack” sound. Using this product without shaking well beforehand, may cause clogging of the nozzle of Powder Shake.
- The stirring ball inside the bottle allows the contents to mix easily.
- How long can this last (daily usage): 3 to 5 months
- Scale (to measure the various aspects) is from 1 to 5, where 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest
What TPJ got to say: Recommended for people (males or females) with straight or permed hair and often frowned over problems such as hair being too flat; Incorporates the best of both worlds of Seasalt Spray and Hair Powder 😀

I bought this product about 2 months back or so. Decided not to do an immediate review, so I’m giving my view now after the novelty have wear off.
Product did what it promised. Ease of application. And nice smell. I normally use it on dry hair then blow dry it. Really nice texture and grip. It really gives volume. Lots of it.
Now for the downside, Im not sure I can identified any except the product may be on the high side. But after applying with ebl taste, gave it even more volume. But maybe because of my hair oil and humidity, the hair will slowly start to fall flat. I guess that’s where hair spray comes in.
Tried using ebl taste alone, and it gave almost as good volume as with powder shake.
Therefore, I would recommend this product to people who really really needs a lot of volume. If not, save the money and get the ebl taste for volume and add in the hair spray.
*maybe I’m doing something wrong. You can give it a shot and experiment different routine to work with.

Good alternative to sea salt spray, less dry feel! Works best with hair blown on low-med heat. Bonus, nice smelling!

After about a week’s usage of powder shake, I feel that this product really works best for me on dry hair. As my hair is quite thick, I usually spot spray about 6 – 8 times at different hair root areas. I lift the ends and spray at the roots in an upward motion towards around 3/4 tip of hair. Then I use my fingers to style/comb through the sides, back, fringe areas and scrunch the crown area towards my parting for massive volume (‘pong pong’ effect). Lastly, I spray a bit into my hand and rub slightly to fingertips then apply it to my side burns to give a very nice subtle texture to it. No need to blow dry and all done in less than 3 mins. If you want, you can finish off with bedhead/PP spray but I prefer not to fixate my hair as I like to restyle on the go, taking advantage of the natural movement of the product. Shiseido products always have a nice smell and powder shake is no exception, the scent strength does fade away slowly after sometime though.
Comparing this to SSS, SSS texture feels a bit more smooth to touch but powder shake, being powder based formula, once it completely dries up and you run your fingers through your hair, you will notice that it has that ‘siap siap’ feel to it. Kinda like the texture you get after applying normal powder to your hair. But looks wise, powder shake has a much more natural healthy hair kinda look finish, getting very well defined volume yet still natural, especially after some time. SSS (liquid particles-based) feels sticky on initial application but powder shake (mist-based) does not. Volume creation wise, powder shake fairs better in ease of creating volume on dry hair, although SSS can also achieve similar results with a hair dryer. Smell wise I think both are equally great, SSS loses most of its scent after blow drying and powder shake has a slightly more feminine scent to it that fades with time.
Go for powder shake if you are the lazy kind like me or stick with SSS + blow dry for a more controlled look. Its quite a revolutionary product combining the hold and voluminous effect of powder plus ease of application. I think this product is more suited for those messy or defined kpop hairstyles though, and not so much for classy quiff/pomps. You can use it to achieve volume with quiff/pomps but I think a sidekick/clay-pomade combo will be a better choice for those styles.
